The face was the first thing I was told that needed to be UV mapped before everything else.
Due to the fact that Depa needed that first so she could start creating the blend shapes for it.
It took me almost a solid day to get it complete but in the end I was more or less happy with it.
As you can see from the top images I separated some of the pieces of the face as to make it easier to texture.
e.g. the neck, nose, ears and mouth.
The reason I did this was not only to make it easier for me to texture but also because If I didn't and left everything as a whole piece the map would be smudged and squishy and that would have made it even harder to go into more depth with texturing it and adding detail.
Hair:
The hair wasn't as hard to UV map even though I think I could have planned the seam a little better if I had had more time.
Belt:
The belt wasn't too hard to UV map but I had some issues with a few pieces, which when connected overlapped and it seemed to have two not one piece that connected/joined at the same.
But in the end I just left those pieces separate as to not effect the texture in any way.
Skirt:
As you can see from the skirt the map for it was weirdly shaped so the checkered texture is not very balanced and so I had to change the map by manually altering the UVs in a straight horizontal/vertical line as to be able to texture it properly.
The improved version of the skirt map.
This is a side profile picture of the skirt, as to show the weird shape of it, and how it could be really hard for the map be very clean and symmetrical.
Buckle:
The buckle wasn't too hard to UV either it just required a little thinking on how to lay the seam.
The Cardigan:
With the cardigan as you can see I manually again sorted out the sleeves because they had a funny shape when I unfolded the pieces..
As for the rest of it I think it's OK even though it could have been unfolded a bit better to help in the texturing.
The Main Body:
Coming up to the main body, as you can see for the image again the map is completed even though I wasn't too happy with it but I don't think it's only because of my work on it but because of the way it was more or less modelled. The geometry of the model wasn't very well done or thought out.
The main model took me a quite while to do.
I had difficulty planning the seam as well as sorting out the pieces to make it easy for me to texture. But from the picture you can see this is one piece all together.
I dissected the pieces as follows; I separated the arm pieces from the main body as well as the legs, also the collar too as I could not leave that attached to the main body too.
But I feel like I should have sorted the sleeves and legs a bit better..=/
Cuffs:
This is a picture of the cuffs which are separated from the actual model but placed close to the same map with the main body as to know that they are part of the sleeves and that they need to be the same texture.
Buttons:
Again maps of the buttons, which didn't take me long to do; they were quite fast and easy and I am very happy with them.
I would say that they were the easiest thing on the model to UV map.
Shoes:
Update improve and much better version of the shoe's UV map.
Geometry:
Unsmoothed Version:
Smooth Version:
These are just an example to show you the geometry of the mesh and how it might have been an issue with Uv mapping and texturing.
Issue with the back of the leg!
Basically Depa's model had loads of issues. When I first received the model from Depa and started looking at it to make sure they were no problems but I seemed to have missed a spot like this, which later came to cross as I was mapping where I noticed a piece was missing on the map, and that was nowhere to be found, so went back to the model and had to fix it myself by attaching the piece together.
This is a close up of the back of the leg specifically speaking (Back of the knee joint calf area)
Completed UV map of the whole model, which looks more less OK.
I also had Kofi to look at it before I started due to the fact am not very good at modelling so I wanted to get a good student's input who actually knows it very well. He also thought that the model wasn't done as well as it could have been.
